Il
ministro della Salute Pubblica ha visitato Guantanamo per accertare l’emergenza
sanitaria causata dalla diffusione di colera, dengue e altre malattie
infettive. Al momento sono accertati 206 casi di colera e 475 di Dengue, più di 100
di questi sono considerati “codice rosso”. Non vengono riportate ufficialmente
vittime, anche se le notizie che si diffondono con il passaparola parlano di
decine di decessi. Altre province incluse Las Tunas, Santiago de Cuba e Holguin
sono colpite, anche se più lievemente, dall’epidemia.
L’intera
provincia di Guantanamo rischia di essere messa in quarantena, l’ospedale
cittadino potrebbe già esserlo. Alcune piccole cittadine della
provincia sono già isolate per la misura restrittiva.
Le
maniglie delle porte di scuole, negozi ed edifici pubblici vengono disinfettate
e gli ospiti devono lavarsi le mani e le suole delle scarpe.
Agenti
di polizia e della Sicurezza di Stato vigilano i reparti dove sono ricoverati i
degenti colpiti da forme infettive per avere notizie sulla loro salute prima di
una eventuale dimissione dall’ospedale.
A
Las Tunas i ricoverati considerati “seri” sono 20 e vengono sorvegliati
accuratamente, 12 alunni di una scuola locale sono stati ricoverati a causa dei
sintomi della malattia.
A
Santiago de Cuba sono oltre 50 i casi sospetti, mentre a Holguin sono
registrati 15 casi.
I
media nazionali non hanno ancora diffuso la notizia, questa carenza causa una
poca consapevolezza da parte della popolazione che considera le notizie “ufficiose”
esagerate. Una maggiore diffusione delle notizie aiuterebbe la prevenzione e
potrebbe contrastare un'emergenza che si prospetta di grave entità.
